Growth doesn't require light to begin.
About A Brighter Somewhere Counseling Services
Grief and trauma are uncertain and isolating experiences. At A Brighter Somewhere Counseling Services, we understand that sometimes it feels impossible to climb out of a dark place. Like the monstera plant that grows on dark rainforest floors while reaching for the light, we believe in your capacity to heal and grow—even in the harshest conditions. Our approach is rooted in the wisdom that growth doesn't require light to begin; it requires connection, support, and the belief that something brighter is coming.
You don't have to do this alone. Healing happens in connection, and support makes growth possible. We provide compassionate, trauma-informed counseling that honors your unique journey. Whether you're navigating grief, processing trauma, or learning to survive and thrive through uncertainty, we're here to help you root yourself in healing. Together, we'll climb toward the light at your own pace, borrowing strength from connection while you grow into yourself.
Our Counseling Services
Grief Counseling
As a former hospice social worker, I provided direct counseling and psychosocial support to terminally ill patients and their loved ones. This work cultivated a deep, compassionate understanding of the dying process. Although many patients carry ambiguous loss — the complex grief that arises when there is no clear ending. This includes the grief your body changing, estrangement, or many other types of grief others don't carry with you.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
Trauma has a way of staying with us long after the event has passed — showing up in our bodies, our relationships, and the stories we tell about ourselves. I am a Complex Trauma Certified clinician, supporting survivors across some of life's most difficult circumstances — from life-threatening illness and medical crises to grief, loss, and identity-based trauma. I draw on CBT, mindfulness, and somatic-informed approaches to help clients gently process what happened, rebuild a sense of safety, and move toward a life that feels like their own again.
LGBTQIA2S+ Issues
I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals across all stages of life — and that dedication extends well beyond the therapy room. My postdoctoral research on LGBTQIA2S+ health and mental health outcomes is currently pending peer-reviewed publication. I understand the unique stressors this community faces — including minority stress, identity-based discrimination, and barriers to affirming care — and how deeply these impact mental health and wellbeing. A Brighter Somewhere is a genuinely safe and affirming space — not just in name, but in practice.
